AirPods Pro

Apple only announced the AirPods Pro with a $249 price tag a few weeks ago, but the noise cancelling headphones have already been given a surprising price cut for Black Friday.

Available on Amazon, the premium model of Apple's popular hearable has been discounted by $15 - bringing the price down to $235.

Considering AirPods Pro have only just launched, there's no guarantee other retailers will offer a saving so quickly, and there's also no word on just how long this particular deal will last for.

Luckily for you, it seems as though Amazon has just received new stock. For the past few days, the retailer was reporting a shipping time of between 1 to 2 months, but that's now been updated to 1 to 2 days. That's a much more palatable time frame.

If that price drop isn't enough to entice you, though, Amazon also has similar deals running for both the standard Apple AirPods and the Apple AirPods that come with the wireless charging case.

The latter has been discounted by a tempting $34.01, taking it down to its lowest price yet, $164.99.

If you prefer to shop at Walmart, this same saving is available there for $164.99.

If you're not overly fussed about the wireless charging case, you can, as we say, pick up the standard edition of the AirPods (which comes with a charging case that doesn't work wirelessly) for another healthy saving; $144 down from $159.

Similarly, Walmart has also price-matched this discount, so you can also pick them up there for $144.

These Apple AirPods are classed as the second generation, but are more of an incremental upgrade over the original model. There's a new H1 chip inside, promising improved wireless performance. Considering the W1 chip in the old model was no slouch, that's impressive.

The biggest improvement is the ability to summon Apple's digital assistant Siri using a hands-free "Hey Siri" voice prompt. Apple also promises more talk time from a single charge. Otherwise, battery life remains the same, with more than 24 hours of listening time through the charging case.

Of course, if you opt for the wireless charging case variant, you can top up the battery just by popping the charging case on top of a Qi-compatible wireless charger. The same charger you use for your iPhone will do.

The H1 chip is designed to make pairing your AirPods with iOS or Mac devices incredibly seamless, but they will work with non-Apple devices just like any other Bluetooth headphones, too.

Not that fussed about wireless charging? The regular second-generation AirPods are also discounted, albeit to not quite as high an amount.

If you already have AirPods without a wireless charging case, Amazon actually has a discount on the case alone, letting you upgrade your AirPods and benefit from wireless convenience. Right now, the charging case is $69.99, a saving of $10 from the usual price.

So, what if you are willing to wait it out for Black Friday? Well, patience is a virtue. The date you want to keep in mind is Friday 29 November. But expect discounts to start appearing throughout the month of November and into Cyber Monday on 2 December.

There's a strong chance both the standard AirPods model and the wireless charging case model will hit new record low prices for Black Friday.

Chances are, however, those discounts won't come direct from Apple. The Cupertino firm hasn't typically gotten as heavily involved in Black Friday discounts as other retailers, at best offering gift cards with purchases.

Last year, on the original first-gen AirPods, we saw the price drop as low as $129. We've seen the standard Apple AirPods already hit $139.99, so hitting a similarly-low $129 for this year's Black Friday isn't out of the question.

Considering the above discount is for the wireless charging case model, we would expect a discount of at least $40 for this year's Black Friday.

Then there are the new AirPods Pro. As we've outlined above, there's currently a deal that strips $15 off the usual asking price, though this will likely only last a few days before returning to the usual $249 asking price.

With that in mind, we would keep an eye on Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart and Target in the US. Amazon, again, John Lewis, Argos and Currys PC World are the hot prospects in the UK for Black Friday AirPods deals.

Make sure you're buying legitimate AirPods this Black Friday, however. If the price is too good to be true, it probably is. There's no shortage of knock off AirPods that sound and perform nothing like the real thing.

Also, be wary of any import models shipped in from Hong Kong or China. These can often be had for much less, but you'll have to deal with slow delivery times and potential customs charges upon arrival. On top of that, your warranty might not be valid.
