Fossil's latest Wear OS smartwatch hasn't been that long on the scene but, if you're in the UK, you can currently make a big £78 saving on the men's Fossil Gen 5 Carlyle with a premium stainless steel band. That discount brings it down to just £167, a record low price for this updated smartwatch.

The Fossil Group has been the biggest supporter of Google's Wear OS platform over the years. The Fossil Gen 5 range pack in all that's good from Wear OS smartwatches, bringing some important upgrades over the previous generation.

As before there's GPS and a heart rate monitor, which checks the fitness boxes. But with the Gen 5 there's a greater emphasis on communication backed by the Google Assistant. There's now a built-in speaker alongside a microphone, so you can make calls from your wrist as well as delivering information from the Assistant.

It's all powered with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 chip alongside ample 1GB of RAM and 8GB of onboard storage for your apps and music. There's also NFC for Google Pay contactless convenience.

If you're dead set on a Wear OS smartwatch, the Fossil Gen 5 is one of the best smartwatch options particularly if you're an Android user. Our Fossil Gen 5 review noted that iPhone users don't have quite as good an experience.

But with as big a discount on a fashionable smartwatch as seen here, it's easier to see past some of its shortcomings. It's not clear how long this price will hang around. It's hit this record low once previously and as you can see from this price history graph it didn't last very long at all.
