The wired glasses get an official reveal after being teased last month at Google I/O
Xreal has used the Augmented World Expo 2026 to announce that its Android XR glasses—officially named Aura—will launch this fall, with paid reservations opening immediately.
The announcement moves the smart glasses—now available for pre-order—past the initial ‘Project Aura’ working title, showcasing more of the hybrid design first teased at Google I/O last month.
Built to replicate a standard pair of lightweight glasses—tipping the scales at under 95 grams—the Aura operates more like a mixed reality headset, such as Samsung’s Galaxy XR.
The hardware relies on true optical see-through passthrough. And rather than projecting a digitized video feed of the surrounding room onto internal screens like the Apple Vision Pro, Aura allows users to look directly through physical glass into their actual environment, layering digital elements on top with a 70-degree field of view and full six-degrees-of-freedom tracking.
Unconfirmed display specs and tethered compute puck details
While early hands-on testing at Google I/O praised the spatial display for looking incredibly bright and sharp, Xreal is still holding back on releasing hard technical specs at this stage.
Yet while exact screen resolution and brightness remain unconfirmed, we do know that the frames achieve their footprint by offloading their core hardware to an external, tethered compute puck.
This pocket-sized companion serves as the brains and the power source for the device, with Google and Xreal currently targeting roughly four hours of active battery life per charge. That’s similar to the standalone Snaps Specs also unveiled at AWE 2026.
Unlike that rival, however, the software ecosystem will rely on Google’s new platform to deliver access to millions of mobile and tablet applications via the Google Play Store.
Pre-order strategy leaves final pricing unknown
Consumers looking to secure a pair will have to navigate an unconventional reservation rollout, as Xreal has opened paid deposits without actually revealing the final retail price of the hardware.
A standard $99 registration deposit grants buyers priority shipping and a $199 credit toward the final product, which effectively functions as a $100 discount once the final cost is revealed.
For early adopters demanding immediate access, a $299 Founder Priority Pass deposit guarantees launch-day delivery alongside uniquely numbered special-edition hardware, though this tier is strictly limited to 2,000 units globally.
The glasses are scheduled to hit shelves this autumn across the US, UK, Canada, Japan, and South Korea.
