Fitbit Charge 7 rumors grow as new Google devices surface on FCC and IMDA
Google G8BL6 and GNQ1L devices appear on FCC and IMDA databases, suggesting a new fitness tracker might be coming soon
An unannounced Google wearable has surfaced in fresh regulatory filings, adding further weight to rumors that a launch could be imminent.
Speculation follows a mystery fitness tracker appearing in official promotional materials for the Pixel 11 series. In one of the screenshots, which showed up on Reddit, you can see two Pixel 11 phones and a Pixel Watch 5 in the “Fog” color, while another highlights the green shades in this year’s lineup.
But what really caught people’s eye was a small, unknown fitness tracker in the images. Its shape looks a bit like the core pebble from Fitbit Air, but the overall design is closer to a Fitbit Charge tracker.
And the rumors grew even more when two unknown Google devices, labeled as G8BL6 and GNQ1L, showed up in the IMDA and FCC databases. That has reinforced widespread speculation that a successor to 2023's Fitbit Charge 6 is on the horizon.
What we know about Google G8BL6 and GNQ1L
The model numbers alone don’t tell us much on their own, but their listings on the IMDA and FCC databases offer some hints.
According to The Tech Outlook, Singapore's IMDA lists GNQ1L as an Ultra-Wideband device and notes that it supports UWB and Bluetooth. It also appears on the FCC database under the ID 2AYYS-GNQ1L, confirming it supports Bluetooth LE, UWB, and NFC, and uses a Bluetooth antenna.
The other device, G8BL6, is listed by IMDA as a Private Mobile Radio (PMREQ) with Bluetooth as its equipment type. It is also in the FCC database, described as a “Wireless Device,” with Goertek listed as the manufacturer.
What fueled the rumors that it’s a Fitbit Charge 7?
The last update to the Fitbit Charge line was in 2023 with Charge 6. Since then, Google hasn't announced a new model, so the appearance of two new Google devices in regulatory databases naturally got people talking.
Most of the attention is on a device called G8BL6. As already mentioned, Goertek is listed as the manufacturer, a company known for making several generations of Pixel Buds. The model number also matches Google's usual style for its own hardware.
There are some other clues as well. The listing points to a screen, and the electronic label can be found through Settings > System > Regulatory Information. That's the same way the e-label is accessed on the current Pixel Watch. Also, using Android Debug Bridge during testing suggests the device could run on Wear OS.
G8BL6 also supports Bluetooth LE and GNSS, so it can use satellite positioning as GPS. However, there is no mention of Wi-Fi on the listing, which is a bit odd.
While none of this proves exactly what G8BL6 is, the clues point to a Google fitness tracker with a display and possibly Wear OS. And with a mysterious device in Pixel 11 ads, we may be getting our first look at a new Google fitness tracker anytime soon. Though whether it's the Fitbit Charge 7 remains to be seen.
