These Garmin watches just got all-day fall detection and voice controls

The software update also adds adaptive Run Coach plans, quick workouts, and automated Enduro mode switching to Edge devices

Garmin has announced a major wave of free software and feature updates across its smartwatch and cycling computer lineups, introducing new safety tools, voice interaction options, and adaptive training features.

The update brings fall detection to the Garmin Venu 4 smartwatch for the first time. Some premium devices from the brand already offer fall detection during workouts; however, the Venu 4 now lets users enable fall detection for all-day monitoring, too.

As before, the watch automatically sends a message with the wearer's live GPS location to preset emergency contacts if it detects a hard fall.

Smartwatch users across the Fenix 8 series, Forerunner 570, Forerunner 970, Venu 4, and Vivoactive 6 also gain hands-free voice control.

By saying "Okay, Garmin," users can launch timers, start workouts, or toggle a watch's built-in flashlight without pressing any physical buttons. You can also summon paired smartphone virtual assistants by saying "phone assistant."

On the fitness front, Garmin is introducing Quick Workouts—letting runners generate running workout suggestions tailored to their current fitness by specifying a target duration and intensity.

Additionally, Garmin Run Coach plans now support run/walk routines and lower-volume training schedules, with daily workouts adapting dynamically based on health and recovery metrics. Garmin has also added an Indoor XC Ski activity profile that supports compatible indoor ski trainers.

For cyclists, compatible Edge cycling computers gain enhancements to the Enduro ride profile, which now automatically detects and switches between climbing and descent modes for continuous data tracking on varying terrain.

The software updates have begun rolling out globally via automatic device updates, Garmin Connect, and Garmin Express.
