Whoop has finally caved and added step tracking to its app, and you can set step goals, too.
If you Google “Whoop step count,” you’ll find a combative post by the company about why it doesn’t count steps.
“Simply put, no, it doesn’t [count steps]. Counting the number of steps you take ignores two very important elements of exercise: intensity and other movements,” the blog post reads.
But in a huge about-turn, Whoop has now added step counting into the app – and it’s live on my dashboard.

Whoop teased fans with a cryptic X.com post, which pointed to the feature landing within the Whoop ecosystem. People got excited and thought it was a new incoming Whoop 5.0 – but they got more than they bargained for.

But as you can see below – step counting now appears within the Trend View. In fact, it’s placed itself top of my curated trend pile. Thanks Whoop.

It’s a significant change in tone, perhaps reflecting Whoop’s gradual shift towards the mainstream user.
