Qualcomm debuts Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 to power camera-equipped AI audio wearables

The new platform brings direct-to-cloud intelligence to earbuds, audio glasses, and multimodal gear

Qualcomm has officially unveiled the Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 Platform, a new audio architecture designed to support AI experiences and multimodal wearable hardware.

Revealed during the brand's Snapdragon Summit in Maui, the platform delivers up to 2x the AI processing capability of its predecessor while reducing power consumption by up to 40% and shrinking its physical footprint by 30%.

This efficiency gain should allow upcoming audio-focused wearables to execute multiple AI models simultaneously without compromising battery longevity, the company says.

A major focus of the architecture is support for camera-enabled audio wearables and smart glasses.

As we've seen rumored for the Apple AirPods throughout 2026, these cameras aren't meant to capture traditional photos—instead, they serve as onboard vision sensors that feed contextual environmental data directly to personal AI agents.

To maintain continuous intelligence, integrated micro-power Wi-Fi 6E enables direct-to-cloud connectivity via Snapdragon Sound Apps & Agents, allowing voice assistants to process complex queries without a smartphone.

"With Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2, we're heralding intelligent audio wearables that enable real-time translation, contextual assistance, personalized hearing, and multimodal interactions," said Ziad Asghar, Senior Vice President and General Manager of XR, Wearables, and Personal AI at Qualcomm Technologies.

The platform’s audio foundation also includes Qualcomm aptX Lossless playback, XPAN ultra-range connectivity, 5th Generation Qualcomm ANC, and the Snapdragon Audio Sense Solution—a combination of low-power microphone arrays and noise-filtering algorithms designed to improve voice capture in high-noise environments.

At its launch, audio brand Cleer showcased an early-concept device built on Snapdragon Sound, demonstrating how screenless audio hardware can integrate vision, voice, and cloud-based AI processing.

We're sure to see the Sound Elite Gen 2 in a range of new hardware over the next year, so stay tuned for our insights into just what the chip helps unlock.
