Irish startup Dagadam has announced the launch of a Kickstarter campaign for its first project, a smartwatch that weds a round, stylish design with a bevy of features.

Dagadam's watch works with both Android and iOS, so it earns a lot of points out the gate, and looks like someone rounded an Apple Watch using a file.

Which is to say it's pretty nice, although perhaps slightly too large for some wrists at 44mm.

It's got an impressive battery life of up to five days, says Dagadam, and is water resistant up to 30 meters. There's also your usual fitness fare with a heart rate monitor and fitness tracking, but the built-in GPS is a particularly welcome feature.

Where Dagadam's watch really separates itself from its rivals is in the Dagadam Hub, the software which lets you draw up a feed of all the things you want to see - messages, emails, social feeds etc. The 'task timeline' sounds like Pebble's similar schedule feature, not that that's a bad thing.

While it's compatible with Android and iOS, Dagadam's watch is using its own OS, which connects to an app store. Some of the examples of apps given include one to connect with your car, and another that links to your smart home systems.

Swipe right on the face and you'll be able to speak to Amazon's Alexa. This isn't the first Alexa-powered smartwatch we've seen, the Cowatch and Omate Rise also use Amazon's smarts. Dagadam says the watch can also be used as a VR controller, but we're not sure how that will actually work yet.

Dagadam boasts about the intelligence of the software it's built - we'd be interested to see just how smart it is when we can get our hands on one.

The watch has a shipping estimate of May 2017, with a retail price of $289. That is, if it meets its ambitious $496,332 goal. You can head to Kickstarter and see a video of the watch in action, and meet Scott Ryan, the man who:

1) Does not like the Apple Watch, unless your grandma bought it for you as a gift.

2) Like to party, but not right now.

3) Wants you to know he owns a Ducati.

4) Doesn't think Sophie's call is important, even though she might be seeking medical attention.

5) Definitely needs some better actor friends.
