Android Wear 2.0 is hitting the Huawei Watch - here's how to get it

If you're not on the developer preview, there's a strange workaround
Huawei Watch getting Android Wear 2.0

While the Huawei Watch 2 is official and on sale, it doesn't mean the Chinese company is totally abandoning the original Huawei Watch. The Android Wear 2.0 update is finally starting to roll out, having been set for March, before that pesky the Wear 2.0 upgrade bug put paid to better laid plans.

Now users are reporting that the update is arriving on their watches. If you were already on the developer preview for Wear 2.0, an OTA (over the air) update is currently making its way out to devices.

If you're not on the preview, there's still hope. Bizarrely, users running Android Wear 1.5 have discovered that by tapping the "System is up to date" screen repeatedly it then forces to the update to kick in. Weird, right? Users say it's taken them as long as 45 seconds before the update started, so don't worry if you feel like an idiot prodding the screen repeatedly - just have faith. Pro tip: Make sure your watch has a lot of battery or keep it on its charging cradle during the update. Oh, and keep your phone connected to Wi-Fi to speed things up.

The timescale for the update, according to a post on the Android Wear Help Forum back in April, was "end of April/late May", so it's still on time. Non-dev preview users aren't yet seeing the OTA update yet, but we expect all of this means it will be showing up very soon.

The Android Wear 2.0 update for the 2nd-gen Moto 360 (and the Moto 360 Sport) is also marked alongside the Huawei Watch for around now, as is the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE and the Asus ZenWatch 2 and 3.

Android Wear 2.0 is the biggest update to Google's smartwatch OS so far, and it brings a host of new features, including an emphasis on custom watch faces, fitness and standalone apps. Plus, iPhone users will get a better iOS/Android Wear experience.

The original Huawei Watch will get Android Wear 2.0 by the end of March
