The Ultrahuman Ring Air has become the first Afib detecting smart ring after the launch of its new PowerPlug.
The Ultrahuman Ring Air has become the first smart ring to feature AFib detection, following the launch of this functionality on the platform.
The AFib feature has been introduced as part of the company’s new PowerPlugs offering, which was announced earlier in 2024.
PowerPlugs are third-party integrations within Ultrahuman, with AFib detection handled by FibriCheck, an FDA- and CE-approved AFib monitoring app.
This integration allows Ultrahuman Ring Air users to monitor heart rhythms for irregularities, potentially alerting them to the risk of AFib, a condition associated with strokes and other cardiac issues.

However, the service comes at a cost. Running the AFib PowerPlug requires a subscription fee of $4.90 per month, which feels expensive for such a niche feature. For users without a prior AFib diagnosis, the need to keep it active month after month may not be compelling after an initial trial period.
For those diagnosed with AFib, ongoing monitoring could be beneficial. The condition is often transient, and the ability to correlate AFib episodes with specific symptoms can provide valuable insights.
Still, $4.90 per month seems steep for a feature that many users may only use as a precaution. There’s potential for Ultrahuman to integrate AFib detection into the core feature set of the Ring Air, similar to the approach adopted by most smartwatches on the market.
