Suunto's new Sport Wrist HR watch sets hearty expectations

CES 2017: Suunto finds its heart
Suunto announces first HR sports watch

Suunto is well known for its sports and adventure watches, but it's only now revealing its first to include an optical heart rate sensor - the Spartan Sport Wrist HR.

Partnering with biometric sensor company Valancell for the HR tech, the watch also includes built-in GPS and the same multisport features found in the Suunto Spartan Sport.

Valencell is a big name in biometric tech, which this week announced upgrades to its new sensor systems, including a new 2-LED module that we suspect is the one found in Suunto's new wearables. There's also the option to pair the watch with a heart rate strap if you'd prefer.

Suunto's promising more details soon, but announced the watch will be available in three colours - black, blue and sakura (also known as "basically pink") - with an RRP of €599.

We'll let you know when we get that in dollars and sterling, and we'll be sure to put one of the new Sport watches through its paces when we can get one in for review. Until then, be sure to check out our list of the best heart rate monitors and HRM watches.
