Suunto has launched updates for its Suunto 7 and Suunto 9 Baro sports watches, with new software features and titanium editions.
The biggest news is the Suunto 7 gets a set of new features that have been absent on the Wear OS smartwatch since its launch over a year ago.
The Suunto 7 finally adds sleep tracking, which will include sleep stages, bringing this somewhat essential feature to the smartwatch for the first time.
Daily heart rate will also be displayed, which takes it out of the hands of Google Fit, and will show 24/7 activity including workouts and rest.
And the pick of the new features is a new focus on body resources. This will show how stress, daily activity, and sleep affect your energy levels through the day. This looks akin to Garmin’s Body Battery feature, perhaps encompassing even more data points.
Finally, the Suunto 7 will get turn-by-turn navigation courtesy of Komoot. The update will start rolling out on 19 April.
It comes with a new Suunto 7 Matte Black Titanium edition, and it seems like the device will be here for the long haul. The device is set to cost and will launch on 21 April.
The Suunto 7 has been something of an outlier for Wear OS, as a dedicated sports watch. It runs the Snapdragon Wear 3100 platform, and is one of the few devices to take advantage of the co-processing to deliver usable battery life for training.
It has power saving modes that will give you around 12 hours tracking with GPS or 7 hours using mapping.
However, it left too many features up to Wear OS. And like most developers on the platform, its now plugging the gaps of features like sleep and heart rate.

But that’s not the only new device. The Suunto 9 Baro has also been given an upgrade too with a new Titanium version. It will cost and is on sale now.
And it’s also getting new features that are rolling out from 30 March.
The Suunto 9 Baro also gets turn-by-turn navigation courtesy of Komoot and ‘Tour’ battery mode than increases the absurd longevity options up to 7 days of continuous GPS.
There’s also point of interest creation and navigation in the Suunto app too.
It's perhaps not the major addition to the line-up Suunto fans will be looking forward to, but the update to the Suunto 7 is welcome and makes it one of the strongest Wear OS devices for sport lovers.
