Snap Specs grab gold at Cannes Lions

Cannes Lions, the annual international festival of creativity, is taking place this week and the big wearable winner is Snap Spectacles, which snapped up three gold Lions in the Product Design and Design categories.

The camera-packing smartglasses also nabbed awards in UX Interface and User Journey categories and was praised for its aesthetic, user experience and its youthful relevance. Snap's vending machine strategy to create a buzz around the smartglasses was also recognised in the Temporary & Pop-Up Environment and Experience Design categories.

Snap Specs aside, it was a pretty quiet on the wearable front as far as other big wins. Audi's Enter the Sandbox VR experience, which combined a real-time VR experience with a driving simulator to test-drive the Audi Q5, picked up a Gold Lion in the Cyber category, but it was Snap that was the talk of the town.

VR made its presence felt with Google's Tilt Brush and BBC Home's A VR Space Walk among those shortlisted in the Digital Craft category alongside Apple's Watch Series 2 Nike+ Edition.

Last year's festival saw Google and Levi's Project Jacquard, Doppler Labs' Here Active Listening earbuds and the Dot Braille smartwatch among the big winners.

You can see the full list of winners over on the Cannes Lions website. The festival is still going on, so there may still be a few wearable tech winners to celebrate before things come to an end in the south of France.
