Will we see an Apple Watch Ultra rival launch alongside the Galaxy Watch 7?
Samsung has confirmed that “new premium models” will launch later this year, fuelling further speculation that an Apple Watch Ultra rival will arrive alongside the Galaxy Watch 7 series.
During its Q1 2024 earnings call, the company noted that new devices are being prepared, saying: “For smartwatches, the MX Business will strive to meet demand for upgrades through the launch of new premium models.”
On the surface, it’s a pretty vague comment that doesn’t provide us with anything concrete – only really that Samsung is planning to launch 2024 smartwatches, which even AI models could confidently predict.
However, the context here is a recent ramp-up in rumors and speculation about the shape the Galaxy Watch 7 series will take, the potential release of a Samsung Galaxy Watch FE, and, most recently, a ‘Galaxy Watch Ultra’ project.
Currently, insiders’ opinions are split; some believe the Galaxy Watch 7 will consist of a standard and ‘Pro’ edition, while others suggest a re-up of the ‘Classic’ edition (the follow-up to 2023’s Galaxy Watch 6 Classic) will be launched.
Whatever the case, an all-new Ultra edition sitting above the Watch 7 series appears likely based on current speculation.
And if a Galaxy Watch FE comes, too, it could potentially mean we’re in store for four new watches from the company in 2024 – all on top of the much-anticipated Galaxy Ring, the Galaxy Fit 3 launching in select regions and Galaxy AI features being brought to Samsung Health.
We’ll have to wait a little while for any official confirmation, though.
Samsung’s next Galaxy Unpacked event is expected to take place in early July, and it’s almost certainly here where its next generation of wearables will be unveiled.
