The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 could be revealed around 28 June, if an online leak is to be believed.
Previously, we were told by a Google spokesperson that there would be more news related to Wear OS at MWC 2021 in Barcelona. And now SamMobile has spotted a "Customer Experience" event scheduled for 28 June at MWC 2021 called “Galaxy Ecosystem / New Watch Experience / Mobile Security.”
Given the event is tagged “Customer Experience” it seems likely this event could follow a more formal unveiling in the preceding days. No press conference or Unpacked event has been announced as yet.
“We’re reimagining smartwatches, creating new opportunities for both developers and consumers. And we’re enhancing security, giving people the protection they need in an open and connected world,” reads the event description.
The event will run at 19:15 - 20:15 CET (Central European Time), which is 1015 PT / 1315 ET.
Previous leaks had suggested a launch at MWC 2021, which is billed later than usual this year in late June. The event usually goes ahead in February. Samsung historically launches its smartwatch range around large tradeshows.
We already know quite a bit about the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4, both from official announcements at Google I/O and leaks.
We know that Samsung’s next smartwatches will run a unified OS, with both Wear OS and Tizen features melded together. We’re not quite sure what that will be officially called, but Wear OS 3.0 has been spotted online.
Model numbers online point to two smartwatches (Galaxy Watch 4 and Active 4) appearing in multiple sizes, with both LTE and Bluetooth-only variants.
Of course, this could just be a deeper dive into the unified OS – but it does seem very unlikely that a hardware giant like Samsung would get to MWC and talk about (what is essentially) Google’s OS, without showing hardware first.
So a 27/ 28 June unveil, with a July-August on-sale seems odds on. Mark it in your diaries, as this could well be streamed online.
