Jawbone continues putting out fires about selling rumors

Jawbone denies selling UP business again

Jawbone has reportedly tried to sell off its wearable business to at least one manufacturer, which could be further evidence that all is not well for the Fitbit rival.

That's according to a report from The Information, which claims that the company has been in discussions with potential buyers and these discussions are separate from the ones to sell its speaker business. The report also suggests that the company recently told a business partner that it couldn't make an August payment deadline.

However a person close to the company reached out to Wareable and told us, "Jawbone is not actively seeking to sell the company." Nothing further was added but we dug a little deeper to verify the claims and it seems Jawbone has hired a third party firm to shut down the rumors.

This tells us the fitness tracking brand is indeed working diligently to extinguish fires but to what end?

All this follows claims earlier this year that Jawbone had halted production of its UP fitness tracker and had sold the remaining trackers off to a third-party reseller.

Jawbone released a statement to downplay the stories it was done with wearables and that it would continue working on the UP line.

"Speculation that Jawbone is exiting the wearables business or going out of business altogether is false. This speculation appears to emanate from wrongful insinuations made in a blog post in which the reporter has since posted a 'Correction.'

"Unfortunately, other media picked it up before the reporter posted a correction and spread this false information. Jawbone remains wholly committed to innovating in and building great wearables products. The Company has never been more excited about its pipeline of technology and products and looks forward to sharing them when ready.

"We manage our inventory positions according to internal business processes, and strategic product lifecycle objectives. This situation is no different and we will continue to support all of our products in the marketplace."

It's been a tough time for Jawbone for a whole bunch of reasons. It's been involved in a series of messy patent lawsuits with Fitbit, while the Blaze and Alta makers continues to cement its rival's place as the best selling wearable company. Garmin's growing presence in the wearables market would also be a major concern while Jawbone's value has reportedly taken a big hit in recent months.

There has also been talk that the Jawbone UP we know today will live on as a clinical grade tracker. Mobihealthnews reported that, back in 2015, Jawbone snapped up Spectros, an 11-year-old "start-up" with patents for non-invasive reading of "pulse oximetry, and detection of perfusion and ischemia."

Could this really be the end of Jawbone? We hate to think so, but it's starting to feel like the writing is on the wall with no new devices unveiled since last year. Make room Nike Fuelband, there could be another high profile wearable set to join you on the scrapheap.

    Sad news if true,  jawbone sleep tracking is far far superior to fitbit.  I have been waiting for a jawbone with a display so I don't have to wear the up3 & a watch at the same time.

    It seems to be true.  Their customer service systems are completely useless.  I have sat on hold for more than 8 hours over 3 calls and no return replies on emails either.  They were supposed to send a replacement under warranty over a month ago and nothing.  Don't buy anything online from Jawbone.

    I have tried to contact Jawbone customer care numerous times for 3 weeks via telephone and via Jawbone's website email portal about an issue with my band. The telephone number plays a recorded message stating that customer care is not available.  And beyond the automated acknowledgement response that comes as soon as an email is sent, I have heard nothing from anyone.  It looks like Jawbone is simply not responding to customer care inquiries.  What company intending to remain in business shuts down its customer service?  It's a great way to shoot yourself in the foot and can only mean one thing.

    I have been waiting since the beginning of October for a replacement to my jawbone still under warranty...and I keep getting stupid emails saying ...we haven'e heard from you so we are going to discontinue this open issue with your jawbone.....and I keep sending them emails back saying...what's going on you promised me a replacement in 5-7 days and now its been over two months and the phones are impossible to get thru on ... I loved my jawbone but looks like I am screwed!

      I have had the same issue.  I've even opened a new ticket and no response yet.  I tried to call today and the recorded message said that phone support was not available.  I don't know what's going on at Jawbone.  I really liked the tracker, I have had 4 of them though due to the band breaking, so their QA is really sucking.  I'm hoping to get my replacement band sometime soon.
