While Joovv is considered an advanced RLT brand, it is also more expensive, which had me wondering whether it’s truly worth it. To find this out, we tested Joovv in terms of its ease of use, features, and price. We also focused on how it performs in real life rather than on technicalities alone, in hopes of helping you make a well-informed decision.
What is Joovv red light therapy?
Red light therapy is a non-invasive procedure you can now enjoy at your own home. RLT devices use red and near-infrared lights, which shine on your body and can potentially improve your well-being. Joovv is one of the most well-known brands on the market. The brand claims that Joovv red light therapy is designed to improve skin, support recovery, and enhance sleep.
What sets Joovv apart from other RLT devices is its premium quality. Personally, I found Joovv to be an advanced device that uses quality materials and an aesthetic design. The brand also claims that its devices have been produced to medical standards for use at home.
How red light therapy works
Red light therapy shines red and near-infrared lights on your body, which may support cellular function. The idea is that your cells absorb this light energy, potentially helping them function more efficiently overall.
Both red and near-infrared lights are important because they tackle different concerns. Red light covers surface-level application, meaning it’s mostly associated with anti-aging and skin regeneration support. Near-infrared light penetrates deeper into tissues, potentially helping with pain, inflammation, and soreness.
Joovv devices explained
Joovv offers multiple devices to choose from. While the technology is the same, each device differs in terms of size, coverage, and price.

If you’re interested in smaller devices for targeted areas only, the Joovv Go and Mini models will be more than enough. They also come at a more affordable price. I found these devices to also be a good alternative if you’re just learning about red light therapy and want to test it out before moving to full-body systems.
For more coverage, Joovv offers several larger devices, including its Solo, Max, Quad, and Elite models. These panels will cover larger areas of your body, allowing you to experience full-body sessions. What I like most is that you can start with one panel and upgrade it by adding another if you need even more coverage at once. The larger the panel you use, the greater the coverage area without needing to reposition.
Joovv Go 2.0 (portable)
If you need an RLT device for targeted areas, we found Joovv Go 2.0 to be a convenient option. It uses the same wavelengths as other Joovv devices and is also very easy to use, as it has an alarm clock function and lets you change light modes via the Joovv app.
Due to its smaller size, you can comfortably hold it in your hand and enjoy RLT sessions on your face, shoulders, or other targeted areas. I believe it’s also a perfect choice for travelers since it’s portable and doesn’t take up much space. It even comes with a travel case.
Price and value
Joovv is definitely a premium brand, with prices starting at $549 for smaller devices like Joovv Go 2.0. However, if you’re looking for full-body panels, the price will definitely be higher, reaching up to $11,099 for the Elite 3.0 model.
There are way cheaper RLT devices out there, but Joovv makes its devices from quality materials, offering exceptional stability and firmness. It also includes extra features for an even more advanced experience, like Recovery+ and Ambient Modes—both can be controlled through the Joovv app.
After extensive testing, I believe it’s worth the price if you plan to use it consistently and need a high-quality device. However, if you’re looking for something simpler, there are cheaper alternatives.
Benefits of Joovv red light therapy
Red and near-infrared lights that reach your body during RLT sessions can potentially have a positive impact on your well-being. Red light therapy is often associated with skin regeneration, muscle recovery, and even pain relief. Because of this, many are interested in trying red light therapy for acne, anti-aging, or hair growth. It’s also popular amongst athletes for its proposed ability to speed up muscle recovery after intense workouts.

However, you shouldn’t expect miracles. While some research on red light therapy suggests it may be effective in some cases, it cannot replace medical treatments. If you’re experiencing severe skin issues or suffer from pain, you should seek other solutions.
Joovv red light therapy might be an excellent addition to your well-being routine, but it cannot replace professional medical care. Using Joovv, you might only notice subtle results, and even then, it requires consistent long-term use.
My experience using Joovv
The whole Joovv red light therapy process was even simpler than I expected. After the initial setup, all you have to do is start the session. When using it for the first time (around 15–25 minutes), you can expect a slight warmth on your skin. Other than that, I didn’t really notice anything else, including any improvements for the first several weeks.

You’ll likely need to use Joovv regularly for a longer period to achieve any potential effects. However, sticking with it regularly wasn’t an issue as it doesn’t require much movement, preparation, or time. I even found it to be quite relaxing, so it was easy to include it in my daily wellness routine.
Results and effectiveness
I knew that to see potential results with Joovv red light therapy would take some time, even before the testing. Just like with other RLT devices, consistency is key if you want to see any optimal improvements. I hoped to see some skin improvements or other changes after using Joovv for 2–3 weeks, but realistically, it took about 6 weeks. Even then, the results were subtle.

The first few weeks didn’t yield any noticeable results, but it quickly became a necessary part of my routine. I found Joovv RLT sessions are quite relaxing, so it wasn’t difficult to incorporate them as a nightly skincare or overall wellness step.
While I didn’t notice major changes in the first weeks, my skin definitely felt softer after about a month. However, it didn’t really help with acne. I also used it right after my workouts, and I felt it slightly helped with soreness. If you lead an active lifestyle, red light therapy may support recovery.
What didn’t change
Joovv red light therapy seems like a promising addition to your wellness routine, but it’s important to know its limits. While I noticed improvements in skin texture, it’s unlikely to solve more persistent concerns like acne or wrinkles on its own. Additionally, while I found it useful after an intense workout, I’m not sure how it would fare against serious pain. In case of deeper issues, it’s better to choose reliable medical procedures rather than RLT sessions.
Design, build, and usability
The first thing we noticed about Joovv devices is their minimalist, simple design. The material felt firm, and all the lights were evenly arranged, creating a clean, high-quality look. Even the smallest Joovv Go 2.0 model felt like a premium device.
I’ve had no issues using Joovv red light therapy. After setting it up, simply start the session and enjoy it without tracking time as the devices come with built-in timers.
Overall portability depends on the device. If you choose a smaller device for targeted areas, you won’t have any issues moving it around the house. However, if you choose a full-body panel, you’ll need a dedicated space for it. What I liked the most is that with larger panels, you can choose from several different mounting options—a mobile stand, a boot, or a door or wall mount.
Ease of setup and controls
To start using Joovv red light therapy, first set it up on your door, wall, or as a stand, depending on your device. During testing, the Joovv Solo 3.0 was hung on the door, which proved very convenient because it took up less space.
After the initial setup, all you have to do is start the session with a few simple clicks. You can control the device using the buttons on the panel or through the Joovv mobile app. Having an app is a huge advantage, as it lets you switch between modes and control sessions. However, as with all applications, you might encounter inconsistencies, so be sure to enable Bluetooth.
Safety and side effects
To avoid any side effects or risk, we carefully analyzed Joovv’s safety regulations and certifications. The brand positions itself as a reliable at-home solution, with devices that are independently tested by Intertek. These tests verify that Joovv meets medical electrical equipment standards and requirements for safe home use.
Side effects and sensitivity
During testing, I personally didn’t notice any side effects. However, if you have sensitive skin, I would recommend testing Joovv on a smaller area first. Common side effects include irritated skin and redness. If you feel any discomfort during your RLT sessions, or if your skin heats up rather than feeling slight warmth, you shouldn’t continue using the device.
Final thoughts
I found Joovv red light therapy to be a premium and reliable option for at-home use. However, it’s only worth it if you’re looking for an advanced device that you plan to use consistently.
Joovv offers a wide selection of devices, so you’ll find a fit for both targeted and full-body sessions. All devices offer a premium feel, are easy to control, and include additional features.
While I believe Joovv to be an excellent choice, the price is definitely a downside. If you’re not sure whether you’ll use Joovv regularly or want to test RLT for the first time, there are cheaper, trustworthy devices out there.
