Oura continues to trickle new features to users of its smart ring, this time embracing AI with a new ‘Advisor’ that delivers personalized insights, recommendations, and coaching.
Unlike Whoop, Amazfit, and others, the Finnish company had previously avoided chatbot-style AI, but this new feature – arriving in the Oura Labs experimental features section of the app – harnesses the technology to allow members to get closer to achieving their goals.
Advisor is available now to test in the Oura app, appearing in the main Home section once you’ve agreed to test it and set up your preferences.
The feature allows users to chat directly with their AI coach, view progress reports, and receive personalized recommendations based on their existing Oura data and daily habits.
The ability to customize their coaching intensity and focus areas will also be available, with scores and contributors, profile information, previous chats with the Advisor and the tagging system all underpinning the habit-based insights on offer.
Until now, there hasn’t really been a compelling reason to use the app’s tags – but they do remain one of the few ways platforms can add in what they can’t track.
Oura’s tags often appear at opportune times – like after a bad night of sleep or a spike in a metric that could signal the start of an illness – but the process of setting start and end times means they’ve always been a bit too clunky for our taste.
Another new addition, Discoveries – this time for iOS users only – would also hint at renewed life for tagging on Oura, though. Essentially, this feature seems to work like Whoop’s ‘Insights’ log, which crosses your recovery score data with your journal’s yes/no answers to try and establish links.
We’re keen to test how it all fits together in day-to-day use, but Oura indicates that personalized insights “linking specific health patterns and habits” related to user wellbeing will be on show to help users understand how their routines affect their health.
Combined with the company’s other recent feature drops – Integrations and Cardiovascular Age & Cardio Capacity – it’s a busy time to be an Oura user. We’re already testing these latest additions out, as shown above, so stay tuned for a full explainer over the next couple of weeks.
