Fitbit co-founders unveil discreet safety band built for family caregiving
James Park and Eric Friedman expand their family health platform with the $249 Luffu Link
Fitbit co-founders James Park and Eric Friedman have unveiled the first hardware device for their new venture, Luffu: a slim, screenless LTE health-and-safety band called the Luffu Link.
Having launched the AI-powered Luffu platform earlier this year to reduce the mental burden on family caregivers, the founders are now moving beyond phone screens.
The Luffu Link is built for what the platform calls the 'sandwich generation'—adults managing aging parents and young children—as well as active older adults who want independence without wearing a bulky medical alert device.
Crafted in the metal finishes shown below—including Halo Gold, Onyx Black, and Sterling Blue—the unique-looking, discreet tracker combines continuous health tracking with dedicated safety tools.
It monitors resting heart rate, heart rate variability, breathing rate, activity, and sleep to learn daily patterns and flag unusual shifts over time. And unlike fitness trackers built primarily for workouts, the Link operates as a passive, screenless safety net, also featuring up to 5 days of battery life.
Inclusive LTE and a multi-function button
Device interactions, meanwhile, center on a single multi-purpose button—not unlike another screenless device, the Garmin Cirqa, unveiled last month.
Holding the button activates AI voice logging to record medications, symptoms, meals, or mood updates directly into the shared family app, while a double-press sends an instant location check-in to designated contacts.
At the same time, an emergency hold triggers an alert over built-in LTE, sharing live GPS coordinates, voice messages, and health metrics without requiring a smartphone nearby.
The Link is available for pre-order now from $249.99, with US shipping slated for early 2027.
Interestingly, the LTE service is included without a separate carrier plan, and, alongside the Link announcement, the company also confirmed it's developing a dedicated home device to bring shared health intelligence into family living spaces later this year.
