We could see the tech footwear before we see XIaomi's first smartwatch
Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has its own wearable, the $13 Mi Band, and it’s invested heavily in Misfit but it looks like this is just the beginning.
Sportswear brand Li Ning, also based in China, has just announced that it will launch smart running shoes that work together with Xiaomi tech and a Xiaomi app in 2015.
Wareable verdict: Xiaomi Mi Band review
The line of smart Li Ning running shoes will get smart chips placed in the soles and users will be able to analyse their running form, keep track of their running progress and monitor goals from the Xiaomi app. There’s no word yet on any integration with the Mi Band fitness tracker itself.
In a statement, reported by Reuters, Li Ning’s execs hinted that the running shoes wouldn’t be too expensive: “We hope to use this opportunity to provide professional “smart” running shoes to running enthusiasts in China at an affordable price.”
