The Pixel Watch 3 will land in 41mm and 45mm sizes – according to a new leak.
The Pixel Watch 3 is now official. Read our full guide to the announcement here.
A leaked promo video shows the Pixel Watch 3 will come in two sizes, addressing our calls for a larger case. Previously available only in a 41mm size, the Pixel Watch will now come in 41mm and 45mm case sizes.
While smartwatches have so often been criticized for being too big, the single 41mm case size for the Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 was our single biggest bugbear (after battery life). It just felt too small on male wrists.
The video, which was posted by Android Headlines, also shows off features include a new Cardio Load feature, with a focus on smart training, and added metrics for ground contact time and respiration. These are all features of Wear OS 5.
However, from what we know so far, there won’t be any improvement on the 24-hour battery life, which means daily charging is still required – a drawback for those using onboard Fitbit sleep tracking.
The Pixel Watch 3 models are set to August 13, with the 41mm Wi-Fi and Bluetooth model priced at $349 and the 45mm model costing $399. LTE connectivity will set you back an extra $50.
Wareable says
The increased size addresses our big bugbear with the Pixel Watch, and this will make it a smartwatch suited to both sexes.
But with the Snapdragon Wear W5 on board, we can’t help feeling shortchanged by a lack of increase in battery life. The platform is powering multi battery life on the OnePlus Watch 2 and TicWatch Pro 5.
You’d hope that Google would be able to eek out bigger improvements on its own software platform. That doesn’t seem to be the case, but we’re still waiting for a proper announcement next week.
