Garmin Vivoactive 3 reveals big facelift in leaked pictures

Exclusive: Garmin shakes up its Vivoactive line
Garmin Vivoactive 3 revealed

Garmin is set to announce the Vivoactive 3 soon, and Wareable has obtained pictures to prove it.

Images of the upcoming fitness watch, which Wareable procured from a reliable source, reveal a new design for the Vivoactive line. Not to be confused with the Vivosmart or Vivofit ranges, the Vivoactive has always been more of an all-rounder, with the Vivoactive HR being the most recent model.

From what we can see, the Vivoactive 3's biggest departure from the HR will be how it's instead taking design cues from the Fenix series; this is the first Vivoactive device with that round screen, and looks much better for it. The optical heart rate sensor is, naturally, found here once again.

While we don't have spec information, we can confirm the watch is lifting heavily from the Fenix UI. As you can see below, there are some improvements in notifications too, as you'll be able to reply from the watch, although the specifics of how this will work remain to be seen. The images also suggest we can expect Garmin's standard fitness tracking features, including the ability to record intensity minutes, step counts and steps climbed, which means there should be an altimeter on board as well.

Beyond that, expect this to once again shoot for being a jack-of-all-trades wearable, meaning you shouldn't expect to see the depth of running abilities of the Forerunner range, and those looking for adventure will probably still want to opt for the Fenix 5X. We've confirmed the Vivoactive 3 is also waterproof, like its predecessor.

To clear up any confusion, Garmin has leapfrogged numbers once again, as it did with the Vivosmart 3 – although the Vivoactive HR was technically the Vivoactive 2, just not in name.

The Vivoactive 3 looks like it will be a much better all-day device, something you'll keep on for a round of golf and then for a jog later on, but now also a smartwatch you won't feel ashamed to be seen out with. It's also good timing for Garmin, as it will have something to go up against Fitbit's smartwatch, which will launch by the holidays.

Garmin would not comment on this story.

If they can keep the price at $249 it would be an instant purchase for me.  It looks fantastic.  That said, I'm not sure that they can.  It looks too premium.

Good timing on article add my vivoactive HR has just gone to the meet its maker. Will definitely hold out for this. Though will hope it is under £300

That´s it! It was just the look to have it all.

Not enough physical buttons for a successful fitness watch.

You can't be relying on a touch screen to switch data display with sweaty hands mid run...it just doesn't work.
