Samsung's Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and Watch 9 debut with game-changing battery life
Samsung has officially taken the wraps off the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and Galaxy Watch 9 at its Unpacked event in London, bringing Qualcomm silicon, substantial battery upgrades, and expanded fitness features to its smartwatch lineup.
The tech giant has launched its next-generation Wear OS smartwatches alongside its latest foldables, with the wearables marking a major internal architecture shift for Samsung.
Both the Ultra 2 and Watch 9 series ditch previous Exynos chips in favor of Qualcomm’s power-efficient 3nm Snapdragon Wear Elite platform—a move that has helped drive performance and deliver unprecedented battery endurance.
Galaxy Watch Ultra 2: Thinner case and 800 mAh battery
The premium Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 refines the bold cushion design of its predecessor, shaving case thickness down by 12% to 10.7mm for a noticeably sleeker profile on the wrist. Despite the slimmer titanium shell, Samsung has managed to pack in a massive 800 mAh battery cell, boosting real-world longevity up to four full days of typical use.
The display now reaches a peak brightness of 5,000 nits for outdoor visibility, paired with an upgraded IP69K durability rating.
On the software side, the Ultra 2 adds specialized sports tracking, including a native 100m (10ATM) professional diving mode and advanced trail running metrics.
Available exclusively in an LTE configuration, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is priced at $649 / £649.
Galaxy Watch 9: Upgraded internals
Arriving in the same standard 40mm and 44mm sizes as the previous generation, the Galaxy Watch 9 retains its sleek aluminum case aesthetics while also inheriting the new Snapdragon Wear Elite chipset, 32GB of internal storage, and One UI 9 Watch (a skin of the new Wear OS 7).
Both sizes also feature the same excellent BioActive sensor array as the Watch 8. Key software additions—also available on the Ultra 2—include Vitals analysis and a new Fitness Index that benchmarks user performance across strength, endurance, and cardio capacity against age peers.
Pricing for the Galaxy Watch 9 starts at $349 / £339 for the 40mm Bluetooth model, rising to $429 / £389 for the 44mm LTE variant.
