Zepp Health has permanently reduced the price of the Amazfit Helio Ring – in a bid to make the ring more competitive.
The company has reduced Helio to $199 (down from $299) – a massive saving on the original MSRP. For reference, the new Oura Ring 4 is $299, but requires a $5.99 per month subscription. So you can see how perilously close Zepp Health positioned its smart ring to the best in the market.
Amazfit has also removed its subscription fees for Aura, its AI coaching service. Users of the Helio smart ring will now get lifetime access to all Zepp Aura and Zepp Fitness features at no additional cost.
Best smart rings from our reviews
We reviewed the Helio, and while we were impressed by the build quality, we weren’t bowled over by the features. And the price just made it a complete non-starter against the likes of Oura, Ultrahuman, and Samsung.
We wrote: “The Amazfit Helio is a well-made smart ring that plugs into Zepp Health’s established ecosystem – but its small feature set doesn’t feel worthy of its price tag.”
The price cut positions the Helio Ring as a competitive option in the smart ring market. But it’s still so far behind Oura, Samsung and even RingConn, a good price tag might not be enough.
Additionally, a new mobile app update is launching soon, featuring a redesigned interface and new tools like an exertion score and a food diary.
So the Helio might still be an option – if Amazfit can get the balance of features right.
