Oura is heading to healthcare settings after a new partnership was revealed this week.
Oura and Essence Healthcare have partnered to enhance senior health. The Oura Ring will be incorporated into Essence’s health and care management services.
The goal of this collaboration is to leverage the Oura Ring’s advanced health monitoring technology—such as its ability to track sleep patterns, heart rate, and body temperature fluctuations—to provide seniors with personalized health insights.
This data can help in the early detection of health issues, improving preventive care and overall well-being.
This partnership reflects a broader trend of integrating wearable technology into healthcare to provide real-time, personalized data, thereby improving patient outcomes and the quality of life for older adults.
Tom Hale, Oura’s CEO, said on LinkedIn: “Many of us may not think about the over-65 community when we’re thinking about wearable technology, but Oura’s 65+ members are among our most engaged. And it makes sense why wearable tech is becoming increasingly important for older adults, particularly those in remote or rural areas, to enable remote health services. We are excited to learn from this community and partnership as it evolves.”
Wareable says:
It’s not a surprise to see Oura being used for remote monitoring—we recently reported on the company signing a significant deal to supply the Pentagon with Oura Rings. The company’s reputation in consumer tech is driving new opportunities in corporate and medical settings.
Oura’s tracking regularly tops clinical-grade studies; however, the company has refrained from obtaining medical device certification for its smart rings.
In an interview we conducted on PULSE by Wareable with Oura’s Chief Product Officer, Holly Shelton, she mentioned the company’s reluctance to have its products regulated.
It will be interesting to see if this stance changes—or if the company develops a separate ring for medical settings that it does pursue FDA approval for.
We’ve observed this strategy with the Evie Ring. Watch this space.
