A host of new features are landing on Garmin devices, with Forerunners set to get new lactate threshold and muscle workout tech.
Garmin has begun rolling out its December 2024 software update, delivering a suite of new features and enhancements across Fenix, Forerunner 255/265, and 955/965 devices.
It’s a slightly hotch-potch update, with a complex arrangement of different features coming to different devices.
But new shiny features include Garmin Coach Strength Training Plans tailored to athletes’ goals, lactate threshold auto-detection, and meditation activity tracking to support mental wellness. Lactate Threshold detection is one I’m particularly excited about because this interesting metric for making big endurance and fitness gains was reserved for those using chest straps in the past. Now everyone with a Fenix 7/Epix/Fenix 8/E, FR255/265, FR955/965 will be able to take advantage of the PPG sensor.
Cycling features have also been upgraded, with improved Functional Threshold Power (FTP) auto-detection and enhanced workout execution scoring.
We’ve broken down every new feature, and the devices that will get it below.
