Learn to receive and reply to notifications when you're on the go
If you want to keep up to date with WhatsApp messages and group chats while out and about, receiving notifications to your Huawei Watch GT 4 is a must.
While it’s not possible to download a full-fledged WhatsApp to the smartwatch from the Huawei AppGallery, you will still be able to read incoming notifications being mirrored from your connected phone.
What’s more, those with an Android phone can use the smartwatch’s ‘Quick reply’ feature to send short phrases in response to messages. Unfortunately, this isn’t available to those paired with an iPhone.
Things are also limited to text-based messages no matter which phone you have. You’ll still be notified if you receive a photo or video, but you won’t be able actually view them on the Watch GT 4 itself.
Read our guide below to find out how to enable WhatsApp notifications on your device.
Receiving WhatsApp notifications
To follow the steps below, ensure you have WhatsApp downloaded on your phone and you’re all set up with an account.
1. Find the notification settings in Huawei Health
From your Android/iPhone, open the Huawei Health app, navigate to ‘Device’, and then select ‘Notifications’ from the list of options.
2. Use the toggle switch to control notifications
First, use the switch at the top to allow notifications from your phone on the watch.
Then, locate WhatsApp and toggle this switch on to receive notifications.
3. Sync your Huawei Watch GT 4
Once your Huawei Watch GT 4 has synced with your smartphone and read the changes to your settings, you should be able to read notifications from WhatsApp. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to find them.
Using ‘Quick replies’ to WhatsApp notifications
As we mentioned up top, this function is only available to Android users – but it can be handy when you need to send speedy responses to messages and don’t have time to pull out your phone. Follow these simple steps to use the feature.
Select your response
Next time you receive a WhatsApp notification on your watch, the message should appear on the screen. Scroll to select your reply – either using a simple emoji using the top option on the menu or by choosing one of the pre-set stock phrases listed.
Tap the screen to send your response, and it will appear in your WhatsApp chat.
Add new phrases to Quick Replies
While there are some handy options in the standard list of quick responses, you may also want to add some custom versions.
To do this, open the Huawei app on your phone and tap ‘Quick replies’.
Select the orange text at the bottom of the screen which reads ‘Add reply’, and type a word or phrase up to 36 characters long. Click OK to finish.
