The TUI Group, which includes Thomson Holidays and First Choice in Europe, is trialling a new wearable device at one of its resorts in Turkey.

The TUI Smartband can be used as a room key as well as a temperature and lighting monitor, and has a digital wallet feature so you can charge your drinks without having to bring your credit card.

The band, which looks like typical fitness bands, can be used to pay for resort amenities using NFC technology.

The company says it is also designed to create more sustainable tourism. It is connected to a room's lighting and environment controls so that, when you walk out, the lights and air-conditioner turn off, saving on electricity.

The Smartband connects to TUI's My Holiday app, compatible with iOS and Android, which also gives the user access to spending during the trip. All those drinks you keep ordering will start to add up and the app will help you keep track of how much you've wasted on getting wasted.

A similar wearable is currently being used at Walt Disney World in Florida. The MagicBand allows users to unlock hotel rooms, buy food and merchandise throughout the park, and use the FastPass feature on rides.
