When you're out having fun in the sun, it can be difficult to keep yourself protected from those harmful UV rays. You could have a great time at the beach with friends one day, and then the next you're as red as a tomato and have to apply lotions to your cracking skin. Ew.

A new company called LogicInk is hoping to help out with a temporary tattoo called Logic UV. It works pretty simply. You stick it to your skin and watch its two rings throughout the day. That's it, no need to connect to your phone or smartwatch and get smart alerts or anything like that. Just watch the tattoos.

The smaller, inner ring will tell you how harsh the sun is by changing from white to purple. The outer, larger ring will turn bright pink from purple when you're getting close to actually burning your skin.

These limits are determined by medical research on minimal erythemal dose, which is a super fancy and scientific way of saying how much UV radiation will cause a skin rash or burn. This number is different for people based on skin tones, and LogicInk says the alerts will be customized for skin tones. We've reached out to ask how this will work and will update when we hear back.

It's unclear how the temporary tattoo is adjusting the colors, and LogicInk will only say that it uses "sophisticated technology powered by chemistry and biology." We also don't quite know how much the LogicInk UV will cost, but there will be a beta program that you can sign up for this fall.

Regardless, if LogicInk's temporary tattoo works as intended, it could help a whole lot of people avoid damaging UV radiation, which can lead to skin cancer. Skin cancer is one of the more common types of cancer, with over 5.4 million cases in the US each year and more new cases each year than colon, prostate, breast and lung cancers each year.
