Polar's V800 multisport GPS watch may have come out way back in 2014, but it's still a favorite among hardcore runners, cyclists and triathlon athletes. The company even refreshed the device in 2016 with a significant update, and now it's doing it again.

The new update adds three core features that hardcore sports enthusiasts will appreciate. The first one is Strava Live Segments, with both running and cycling support. Available for Strava Premium members, once you update the watch and connect Strava, you'll get a notification when you approach a starred segment.

You'll even be able to measure your real-time performance up against a segment's KOM/QOM, or even your own personal record during a segment. If you buy a V800, you'll get a free 60-day trial of Strava Premium, so you can try it out and see if it's something you'd be into on a regular basis.

The new update also brings Fitness Test support for the V800 via the Polar OH1 optical heart rate sensor. You'll be able to pair your V800 up with the OH1 and get a read on your fitness level via Polar's proprietary method. It's admittedly not the best way to get your fitness level, having to get a secondary device, but if you're dedicated to the V800 then it's a nice little workaround.

Finally, if you've enjoyed using GoPro support with your V800, you'll be happy to know that you can now overlay your V800 data right on top of your video feed. You can sync up your heart rate, speed and altitude right into the video file via Bluetooth. Polar also has a template you can download and fit onto the video should you want to share your bike ride to social media.

The update for the Polar V800 is available now.
