Oculus Rift price drops to $399 permanently - your move, HTC Vive

And that includes the Touch controllers
Oculus Rift gets a permanent price drop

Not only is Oculus lowering the entry bar to VR with its standalone Oculus Go headset, it's also dropping the price of the Oculus Rift bundle, which includes headset and Touch controllers, to $399. Permanently.

The system was dropped to $399 during Oculus VR's Summer of Rift promo, after which it went to $499, still a reduction on a bundle that would have previously cost $598.

But going forward, the Oculus and controllers will be set at the $399 price, which will hopefully lure in a lot more people to the Oculus platform. Its main rival, the HTC Vive, recently got a $200 price cut, bringing it down to $599, but Oculus is now undercutting it significantly.

It seems inevitable that HTC will have to respond to this now. When it first went on sale, the Oculus headset alone cost $599, so with the new bundle Oculus has climbed down the price of VR by about half. Amazing what you can do when you've got Facebook backing you, eh?

At Oculus Connect, Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg said he wanted to get 1 billion people into VR. This latest price cut certainly won't hurt those ambitions.
