Let the delivery guy in with August Access

August has announced a second-generation smart lock and a host of new connected smart home products.

In addition to a new doorbell camera and a keypad accessory, the company has also announced August Access – a software platform that enables you to combine with third parties to offer access for deliveries, cleaners and more.

August's second-generation smart lock isn't a huge design upgrade from the original. Designed by Yves Behar's Fuseproject, it's now HomeKit compatible thanks to the addition of a Broadcom chip. iOS users can now use Siri to lock and unlock doors using voice commands, which also means it works with Apple Watch, so you can use your wrist worn device to lock the door, view your activity log, and receive instant notifications.

The Wi-Fi enabled doorbell camera is designed to be wired to your current doorbell and triggers the video feature when someone comes up to your door. Motion sensors detect movement and the app sends you a notification. You can check out who is at the door from within the app.

If visitors need access to your home but don't have a smartphone or Bluetooth capability, you can now let them in with a keypad accessory. The 10-digit pad can be stuck next to the doorknob. Then, send a unique code to the person at your door so they don't have to download the August app, or use a smartphone at all, to get inside.

However, the most interesting addition to August's new line of gadgets is in the software department. The company has been gathering connections to create a one-stop shop of home services.

From within the companion app, users can check out August Access, which is an aggregated list of companies that take care of stuff at home for you while you are away. Companies like Sears, Postmates,, Handy, Fetch, Shyp, and more have already partnered with August to provide services that you can schedule appointments from within the app.

The companies provide services like pet care, food delivery, house cleaning, and appliance repairs. You can schedule access to unlock your door for specific times on specific days.

The August Smart Lock has dropped in price to $249 and August Doorbell Cam costs $199. The August Smart Keypad retails for $79 and all three are available for preorder now and ship in four to eight weeks.
