Bluboo Xwatch claims to be a $99 Android Wear superwatch

Chinese company claims to perform a smartwatch miracle
Bluboo Xwatch is $99 super wearable

Bluboo is to release its Xwatch Android Wear smartwatch this February, according to its blog. What's more, the Chinese-built smartwatch has been reported by GizChina to cost just $99.99.

Update: When will your smartwatch get Android Wear 2.0

It's claimed that the Bluboo Xwatch will pack a 1.2GHz processor with 4GB of storage and a 1.3-inch, 360 x 360 pixel display. That compares to the Moto 360's 1.56 inch, 360 x 330 screen, and it doesn't seem as if the Xwatch suffers the ignominy of the flat tyre. At 9.8mm the Xwatch also claims to be thinner than the likes of the Apple Watch (10.5mm), as well as the Moto 360 (11.4mm).

Other features include a heart rate monitor, an altimeter (particularly useful for climbing and hiking), a barometer and most importantly GPS.

It's an amazing spec with a staggeringly low price, and while we dearly hope everything makes the final release, it does sound alarm bells. Even the newly announced Casio Smart Outdoor Watch WSD-F10 Android Wear sports watch couldn't find space or battery life for a GPS chip and heart rate monitor.

In terms of design – at least from the pictures on the company's blog – the Xwatch certainly looks the part with its nod to the traditional sports dial watch face and sleek design.

However, this wouldn't be the first time we've heard similar claims, and we always call out the Com1 smartwatch, which featured a staggering spec sheet at a low price, but was yanked from Indiegogo because it lacked a proper license for Google's software. Until we hear from Google, which tends to publicly back all its signed up partners, the jury is still out on whether the Xwatch has its Android Wear license signed and sealed.

The XWatch will certainly run some variation of android. My fingers  are crossed that it is in fact android wear but I am skeptical like the author. Regardless at $100 its a bargain and I will buy it regardless.

Gearbest is now responding to questions about this saying that the watch does NOT run Android Wear.
