Microsoft smartwatch landing in time for Christmas

Redmond to beat Apple Watch to market according to reports
Microsoft smartwatch incoming

According to Forbes, Microsoft is going to beat Apple to the wearable tech market by launching its very own smartwatch in time for Christmas.

Official confirmation: Microsoft Band now on sale

The report states that the Microsoft smartwatch will come packing passive heart-rate monitoring and a two day plus battery life, and will be in the shops before "the lucrative holiday season".

It's also stated that the Microsoft smartwatch would work across multiple mobile platforms. That'd make sense because, come on, even the Redmond tech giant knows that going Windows Phone only would be a disaster.

Now, it's easy to knock Microsoft when it comes to its hardware record - the Zune was blown out of the water by Apple's iPod and the less said about the Kin smartphone range the better - but the company that Bill built does have some pretty major success stories as well.

And it's from one of those success stories that the Microsoft smartwatch is said to be born out of; the report states that the optical expertise of Kinect has played a part in the watch's development.

And, let's not forget that Microsoft has previous in this area. It was knocking out smartwatches with the likes of likes of Citizen, Timex, Fossil and Suunto with its ‘Smart Personal Object Technology’ devices way back in the early 2000s. Check out our smartwatch history feature to learn more.

And there's the Microsoft smartwatch keyboard that was demoed lately as well.

Hmmmm, we're intrigued at least. But we'll reserve judgement until we hear something more official.

Lets see... The Surface can be called a flop.

Windows Phone has again fallen back behind, um, Symbian in some markets.

The WP appstore is a catastrophe - regardless of the great improvements to the OS itself.

But nah... we don't fix any of that. Instead we launch a completely new product range.

ERRRRRRRRRM, Surface Pro 3 sold out in more than 30 markets, its no longer struggling, its not a flop, iPad was a flop when first came out, now its doing very well, same with androids, no product comes out excelling sales overnight first try.

Windows Phone is gaining traction over 30 markets globally, massive traction in Europe and Windows Phone store is no catastrophe, may not have 1 million, but has many good apps for a store with more than 320,000 apps and they are fixing that.

Microsoft Lumia sold 10 millions in Q3 and will sell even more around the globe

Xbox One gained the fastest Asian traction launch of this decade so far, with 100k launch of Xbox one in china less than a week and beating PS4 sales in the UK with 500,000 units sold last month.

Microsoft is not just putting a smart watch to launch a completely new product age, I think your short sited from the old Microsoft era under Ballmer, not anymore, this is the new Microsoft under Satya Nadella

So you have no clue what your talking about, I suggest you research before you sprout trash on the web before it gets messier.

Microsoft fanboy alert! Ha, just joking....kind of.

You're right, Microsoft has had some relative success as of late, but nothing to trouble Samsung, Sony, Apple and co (at least on the mobile computing front).

It will be fascinating to see what a MSFT smartwatch will come packing....
